Pinmill

When did Mother's Day become such a celebrated occasion in this country?! The streets of Ipswich were swarming with shoppers searching for appropriate gifts the day before, while the card companies had a field day out of it with cards to The Best Mum/Mummy/Grandma/Nan/Wife/Mother-In-Law In The World, from Your Darling Husband/Your Loving Son/Both Of Us/Your Little Princess - all of course with appropriately mushy slogans.

Despite encouragement to do so from the lady of the house, celebrating Mother's Day has rather been seen by the rest of us in our little immediate family as, well, a commercial farce. (In fact my dad definitely rolled his eyes when he realised I'd caved and bought a card this year.) However, the occasion does present an excuse to go on family outings and the like, and that's what we did. We went to Pinmill.

There'd been a threat of drizzle from the weather forecast earlier in the week, but this quaint Suffolk fishing village graced us with blue skies and sunshine: a welcome accompaniment to a walk along the harbour and a stroll in the woodland. And despite the slow service due to the hoards flocking in on such a bright Mothering Sunday, the Butt & Oyster provided us with delicious fish pie and Suffolk ales to finish off with.
